baritone, was born and raised in Sonora, Mexico, where he was a member of several choirs from the age of 13 and director of a choir at the age of 16. At the age of 19, he moved to California where he was a soloist vocalist of the Merced College Jazz Ensemble. He also participated in musicals including Camelot, 42nd Street, Annie and as Ricardo in Simply Maria or the American Dream, and had the honor to be a soloist in the Opera Gala of Townsend Opera Players in Modesto, California. He holds a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he had the opportunity to appear in several Opera Scenes with the roles of Don Giovanni from Don Giovanni, The Count from Le Nozze di Figaro, Alcindoro from La Boheme, as well as Ysidro in the UCSB Premiere Musical of Lobsters in Pants and was a member of the Opera Santa Barbara Chorus for Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. At Arizona State University he had the opportunity to perform in the Arizona premiere of The Scarecrow, and performed the role of Vidal in the mother of all zarzuelas Luisa Fernanda. In addition, Mr. Sotelo has performed in different recitals around California as well as in Mexico and recently in Colombia.
